I mainly use analog instruments (synthesizers) because they have a warm and dense sound that reaches my psychic nature. The sound of these synthesizers is also more natural as it is not completely clean and predictable, there is still something else about them: they have an impressionist character which is essential for the soundtrack of a cosmic trip (i.e. describing the electro-chemical of the brain).

I would describe my use of synthesizers as if they where the vehicle of the journey:

  1. The trackers in the journey are the ones in charge of tuning or creating the ambiance of the moment, discovering new places, inspiring the music, for this I usually use the Doepfer A-100 Modular System.
  2. The “mother ship” is normally composed by two polyphonic synthesizers: one is digital (JD800 Roland, DX11 or SY77 Yamaha); the other is a polyphonic analog module (such as, Matrix 1000 or 6R Oberheim or Cheetah MS6). All these with the help of a MIDI sequencer (mostly used in real-time). This is the set-up I use to create the dense structure of the music.
  3. Then, there are the smaller ships that go inside and come out of the “mother-ship” like in a dance, you have dancers who are responsible for the solos, sequencing lines, rhythms, FX etc…

…and a bit more:

I would say that these are the monophonic synthesizers Korg MS10, MS20 and… Yamaha CS5 e CS15D; Waldorf Pulse Plus; Roland SH101; and, still the special ones from the past: string machines Crumar Multiman and Vox String…

When I play there is a fusion between the synthesizers and me and then I don’t even know if it is me who’s playing them or if they are actually playing me, and this is my deepest meditation.
